PROSPECTIVE FALLS CREEK HYDROPOWER PROJECT
An applicant-Prepared Environmental Assessment and license application to operate a hydro-electric project was submitted in October, 2001 to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) by Gustavus Electric Company. The next step in this process is for the FERC and National Park Service to determine if additional information is needed for the application. If no further information is necessary, the FERC and National park Service will prepare either an Environmental Assessment or Environmental Impact Statement depending on the severity of the project impacts to resources in the area. This process could take anywhere from one to two years.
According to Dick Levitt of Gustavus Electric Company, "The proposed preferred alternative design is still up for negotiation or alteration based on input from other agencies, groups or individuals. We believe that with the input we have from all parties, including extensive work done by both myself and Greg Streveler, we have the best alternative at this point."
